That Zit on My Nose was an Ingrown Hair!

question markWarning. This story isn’t for the ridiculously squeamish.

About two weeks ago I woke up, looked in the mirror, and groaned. I’m 33 years old and I had a huge freakin’ zit right on the tip of my nose. It was one of those large, hard red spots; no blackhead, no whitehead, nothing I could do about it.

That thing lasted for two weeks straight. I tried the usual tea tree oil routine. I used warm compresses. I payed special attention to how I washed my face. I went out and bought some of those pore strips. I even dug out an old clay mask.

Nothing worked – at all. As a matter of fact, it got worse. It was a little larger in size, became a brighter red, and became tender to the touch. I kept applying tea tree oil at night, but I noticed a night or two ago that the oil was a little irritating, as if it was more open. I kept telling my man to stop bumping my nose when he leaned in to kiss me. It hurt that bad.

Regardless, I woke up this morning and took a look in the mirror. The “zit” was as ugly as ever, but today it was different. I noticed it was red around the edges but the center looked like something was boiling beneath. There was also a small whitehead at the top – it appeared out of nowhere overnight.

Do I need to outline what I did with that?

Right. I popped that thing. But you won’t believe what happened.

I leaned in close to the mirror as I gently squeezed the whitehead. I did a little bit of a double take as, with the pus, I saw a small black hair come out with it.

I looked closely at my finger, wondering if I had perhaps brushed an eyelash onto my hand before I started and just hadn’t noticed. But nope – I had seen it come OUT of my nose; from the outside.

After I finished cleaning the now small wound on my nose (there was a lot of “stuff” in there), I took to Google and did a search. Turns out, it’s not ridiculously common, but it is possible to have an ingrown hair inside your nose come OUT through the outside.

The ridiculous tenderness is gone; a lot of the redness is gone; and the swelling is almost gone as well.

An inside-out ingrown hair. I’d like to say I’ve seen it all now, but I’m sure I haven’t.

Sorry, folks. No pictures.

  1. This has been happening to me, repeatedly, for the past 10 months!

Deborah, has yours ever come back? I don’t think that mine has ever completely gone away; every time that I think it’s about to, it gets worse again. I’m glad it’s not just me! LOL

I only had it happen one time, Lisa, but I can tell you it was after a period of time with a bad cold, lots of rubbing, blowing, etc. I wonder if that contributed. I’m glad I’m not alone and I hope yours clears up. That thing hurt!
